Mother's Day traditions around the world

Different countries celebrate Mother's Day with unique traditions that highlight the importance of mothers. 

In Mexico, "Día de las Madres" is on May 10th, where families gather to sing, prepare special meals, and often hire mariachis to serenade their mothers.

In Thailand, Mother's Day coincides with Queen Sirikit's birthday on August 12th. People honor their mothers by wearing blue and giving jasmine flowers to symbolize love and respect.

Ethiopia celebrates Mother's Day as part of "We'Met," a multi-day festival filled with food, singing, and dancing to strengthen family ties.

In the UK, "Mothering Sunday" originated from attending church and has evolved into a day of gift-giving and family meals to honor mothers.

In Japan, Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday in May, with red carnations given as symbols of purity and love, often accompanied by heartfelt letters from children. 

These traditions showcase the universal appreciation for mothers while reflecting each culture's unique values.
